Norvasc

Norvasc (amlodipine) belongs to the group of medicines called calcium channel blockers and works to treat high blood pressure and chest pain by slowing down your heart rate. You will need to take this medicine for a longtime - maybe even for the rest of your life, as high blood pressure is impossible to cure, but it can be controlled efficiently. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can lower your blood pressure and lead to a number of serious heath effects that can be avoided. Always take the exact amount you have been prescribed and try to avoid missing doses. Your missed dose is supposed to be skipped if it is almost time for the next one. Avoid taking a double dose, as this is not likely to make your treatment more efficient or enhance the properties of this medication. Just taking Norvasc is not going to be sufficient – your health care provider will also recommend following a certain diet and changing your approach to exercising regularly. Never take more of Norvasc because of the possibility of developing the following symptoms of an overdose: fainting, warmth, tingly feeling, and severe dizziness. You need to understand the difference between mild and serious side effects Norvasc can cause in order to be able to react properly to their occurrence. Serious side effects (such as swelling in your hands, yellowing of your skin or eyes, burning, unusual weakness, easy bruising, chest pain, numbness, and pounding heartbeats) are supposed to be reported to your health care provider as soon as you notice them, while mild side effects are most likely to go away on their own. The following mild side effects are possible: urinating more than usual, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, stomach pain, dry mouth, insomnia, loss of appetite, mild skin rash, muscle pain, and dizziness. If you developed any new symptoms that seem serious – call your doctor as soon as possible. Seek emergency medical help if you develop any of the following signs of an allergic reaction: rash, hives, trouble breathing and swelling in your hands, feet and face. Make sure other people in your household are not taking Norvasc without your knowledge. It’s your responsibility to keep your dose of Norvasc out of the reach of children and other people to whom it was not prescribed. Do not take this drug if you are pregnant before talking to your doctor.
